Introduction and Objective: The pain during the erection is an impairment of quality of life for patients with Peyronie's disease (PD). Pain can lead to inability for sexual intercourse. Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) is a very promising treatment modality, can be recommended as a therapy for pain reduction in PD. Thus, this equipment was developed and was tested in patients with penile pain of the Peyronie's disease.
Methods: The equipment is composed of three aluminum parts, being the first one to fix it at the table of the lithotripsy equipment, the second part is composed for two adjustable connecting rods for approach and adjustment of the position of the penis to the focal point of the ESWT and the third part is composed for a gutter of 250 mm of extension for 40 mm of width, so that the penis is supported and fixed. In total, 18 patients with pain provoked for the PD had been divided in 2 groups, the group-I received application from the ESWT with localization of the plate for ultrasound, without using the fixing mechanism and the group-II used the penile fixing mechanism. We analyzed the easiness for positioning of the penis, the time of application and the necessity of new location due the displacement of the penis of the correct position.
Results: Success of localization in all patients was verified by ultrasound. The patients of the first group had needed of 5 new positioning and the second group, only the first positioning, thus provoking a bigger time of application in group I.
Conclusions: We verified that this equipment can improve and facilitate the application of the ESWT in the treatment penile pain of the Peyronie's disease.
